Redskins sound hopeful about Colt McCoy for Thursday’s preseason game

The Washington Redskins would love to get the third part of their quarterback competition involved in Thursday’s preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Colt McCoy was held out of the team’s preseason opener, where Case Keenum played well and rookie Dwayne Haskins flashed some upside, but also tossed two picks.

McCoy had some complications in his recovery from a broken leg as far back as June but sounds primed to get back on the field, per head coach Jay Gruden, as seen above from The Athletic’s Ben Standig.

As the quarterback in the competition with the most experience in the offense and on the team, McCoy is something of a darkhorse candidate to win the job going into next season.

Should that play out, it might start Thursday night.
