Redskins sign another former AAF player with LB DeMarquis Gates

The Washington Redskins have added yet another former AAF player, this time at linebacker with DeMarquis Gates.

Gates, undrafted a season ago, was a college free agent with the Cleveland Browns before getting waived and eventually heading for the AAF. There, he played for the Memphis Express and tallied 72 tackles over eight games.

The Redskins announced the move Thursday.

Gates is far from the only player NFL teams have gobbled up from the AAF. The Redskins have added edge Andrew Ankrah and guard Salesi Uhatafe.

The newest former AAF addition will have an uphill battle at linebacker, though the unit is getting a makeover of sorts with Rob Ryan in town as the positional coach.
