Redskins safety Landon Collins admits he would have held out had Giants franchised him

The Washington Redskins were able to make a splash early in free agency this year by signing former New York Giants safety Landon Collins.

News is now being released that explains why the Giants let him walk so easily.

During an appearance on the Michael Kay Show on Thursday, Collins admitted for the first time that he would not play under the franchise tag that New York was likely to give him, despite stating earlier in the year that he would not hold out.

According to Dan Benton at GiantsWire, New York decided to let Collins walk, knowing that he would likely hold out for a mega-contract and cause a distraction.

“Oh no, not at all. No,” Collins said when asked if he was surprised the team let him walk. “There was nothing being said throughout the whole [2018] season. And once that happens, you kind of get the [idea] that something is not going to happen. You’re not in the plans.”

If you’re a New York fan, you finally have an answer as to why your star safety was shown the door. If you’re a Washington fan, you’re just happy to have signed a big-name free agent.
