Redskins rumored to have been interested in S Eric Weddle before Rams signing

If you woke up on Sunday to see the Oakland Raiders landed WR Antonio Brown in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers, then you’re realizing that the Redskins missed out on a big opportunity.

Unfortunately, it looks like Washington’s inability to land Brown was actually the second miss of the upcoming 2019 free agency period.

According to Ben Standig with NBC Sports Washington, the Redskins showed interest in S Eric Weddle before he signed with the Los Angeles Rams.

Though the Redskins could have benefited from the addition of Weddle, this doesn’t tank their offseason in any fashion. Washington is in need of safety help, with D.J. Swearinger’s departure and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix’s questionable future in D.C. Luckily for them, there are plenty of other options.

There is still a strong group of free agent safeties remaining up for grabs this offseason, highlighted by former New York Giants’ Landon Collins, who the Redskins have been rumored to have interest in.

Nonetheless, a mental image of Weddle—and his beard—playing in the nation’s capital is pretty appealing. C’est la vie.
