Redskins reportedly had competition for Adrian Peterson before re-signing him

Now we possibly know why the Washington Redskins were so interested in getting Adrian Peterson back under contract quickly.

According to MMQB’s Albert Breer, interest from other teams forced Washington’s hand: “This year, both the Bears and Jaguars were in it before Peterson decided to go back to DC.”

It’s not hard to see why the Redskins wanted to deflect others and retain Peterson. They liked having him last year as a mentor and leader, not to mention the 1,000 yards he put up well north of the age of 30.

Going into next year, the Redskins will likely look to throw Peterson back into the same role again, which would have been similar to what Jacksonville or Chicago wanted to do.

Peterson will serve as the spell to Chris Thompson while the team slowly eases Derrius Guice back into things coming off his knee surgery.
