Redskins played a role in Panthers firing Ron Rivera

The Washington Redskins picking up another rare win this season has had an unexpected side consequence.

The Carolina Panthers, the team the Redskins defeated, fired head coach Ron Rivera on Tuesday.

Rivera had served as the head coach in Carolina since 2011 but the loss to the Redskins seemed to be the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back.

There, the Redskins won 29-21 via 248 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, on the road no less, largely controlling the physical aspect of the game.

During the announcement of the coaching move Tuesday, Panthers owner Dave Tepper confirmed the ugly loss to the Redskins played a part:

Other than the Josh Norman connection, chalk it up as something else similar between the two teams after the Redskins fired Jay Gruden earlier this year.
