Redskins move Trent Williams to NFI list, ending his season

As was expected, the Washington Redskins placed left tackle Trent Williams on the NFI (Non-Football Illness) list on Thursday afternoon, making him ineligible to play for the remainder of the season. The Redskins also don’t have to pay him the $6 million left on his salary.

This was thought to be an option after Williams ended his holdout just before the NFL Trade Deadline on October 29th, with the seven-time Pro Bowler failing to pass his physical after complaining of discomfort when putting on a helmet, due to sensitivity surrounding the scar on his head that resulted from offseason scalp surgery to remove a cancerous growth.

The Redskins were said to be looking for a suitable helmet for Williams, but this move to the NFI shows that they were unable to do so.
