Redskins’ Montez Sweat enters NFL after joining rare company in collegiate pass-rushing ranks

Few players were more impressive during the 2019 NFL draft process than Mississippi State pass rusher Montez Sweat.

And somehow, it overshadowed his incredible collegiate performance. According to Pro Football Focus, dating back to 2017, only two players had a better pressure percentage — and one of those was Nick Bosa.

The Redskins were clearly paying attention. After landing Dwayne Haskins at No. 15, the front office moved back up to No. 26 and plucked Sweat out of his freefall.

A former top-10 candidate, Sweat dipped after a late report about a heart condition that may have been incorrect went public. But the Redskins have been adamant it isn’t a concern since.

With some savvy patience and moves, the Redskins not only landed a top quarterback but got one of the most productive pass-rushers to enter the draft in years.
