Redskins make some interesting rule-change proposals

The Washington Redskins were one of a few teams to make proposals about rule changes recently.

While some changes proposed by teams focused on alterations or alternatives to the onside kick, the Redskins dove keep into the reviewable plays end.

Some would say they took the Bill Belichick route.

The Redskins’ suggestions, per the NFL:

By Washington; to amend Rule 15, Section 2 to subject all plays that occur during a game to coaches’ challenge by teams or review by the Officiating department in the instant replay system.

By Washington; to amend Rule 15, Section 2, Article 5 to add review of personal fouls as reviewable plays in the instant replay system.

Some of these changes would be noteworthy and perhaps prevent plays like the one that ruined the New Orleans Saints season recently. But the counter is that these changes could make games even longer.

We’ll see if the Redskins make any headway here, as they aren’t the first person to make these suggestions.
