The Washington Redskins won’t be able to stash J.P. Holtz on the practice squad.
After the Redskins waived Holtz to get help at other positions, the Chicago Bears swooped in and placed a claim on him, as seen in the announcement above.
Holtz was a factor in Week 1 too, as the Redskins called him up with Jordan Reed out and he earned 14 snaps on special teams. Jay Gruden has sounded like he’s ready to get Reed back on the field this week, but even if the star tight end returns, that doesn’t solve the problem of depth.
This leaves the Redskins with an open spot on the practice squad and thin at tight end if Reed suffers another setback.
