Redskins listed as best free-agency fit for Teddy Bridgewater

The Washington Redskins have a serious need at quarterback — and free agency happens to boast an interesting name like Teddy Bridgewater.

Bridgewater, 26, figures to hit the open market again in search of a chance to compete for a starting gig, which he won’t get with the New Orleans Saints.

The Redskins might be willing to make that happen and that very possibility is the basis of NFL.com’s Marc Sessler pegging them as the best fit for Bridgewater:

A prime candidate to snag a quarterback in the draft, the Redskins must address the void left by Alex Smith’s grisly leg injury. The smart approach would mimic what the Browns pulled off last offseason, making a move for veteran Tyrod Taylor before swinging for the fences with Baker Mayfield. An affordable, short-range deal for Bridgewater fits the bill.

Bridgewater only got to attempt 23 passes last year but seems fully back from the gruesome injury he suffered a few years ago. He’s a guy that teams are bound to have an interest in, taking a chance that he can regain some of the franchise-passer upside he flashed in Minnesota.

For the Redskins, spending on a quarterback might not make the most sense given Alex Smith’s cap hit and needs elsewhere. But if it’s affordable, Bridgewater coming to town and competing for a starting gig would be a win-win for both sides.
