Redskins’ Landon Collins voices opposition for proposed CBA

Washington Redskins veteran safety Landon Collins doesn’t appear to be in favor of the proposed Collective Bargaining Agreement that the NFL players will be voting on in the near future.

A new CBA was proposed last week, one that would see an extra game added to the regular-season schedule, as well as two additional wild-card games once the playoffs roll around. It would also rid of one preseason game for each team. This is how USA Today broke down the major details:

The proposed CBA most notably includes a provision expanding the regular season to 17 games. As a result, players will receive 48% of the revenue, eventually climbing to 48.5%. Paired with projected revenue growth, it could net the players an added $5 billion in total.

Rosters would expand by two players (from 53 to 55), with 48 players able to dress for games rather than the current 46. Practice squad sizes would rise from 10 players to 12 and eventually 14. Protecting those players from free agency would be easier.

The minimum salary for rookies is expected to increase by $100,000 in 2020. Additionally, owners and the league are set to relax the league’s penalties on marijuana and put player discipline for off-field incidents in the hands of a neutral arbitrator rather than commissioner Roger Goodell, who currently adjudicates such matters.

Several players have come out against the proposed CBA, claiming that it is unfair to players and doesn’t compensate them well enough to add an additional game to the schedule.

The owners have already approved the proposal on the table, and it’s now up to the roughly 2,000-member union to vote whether to ratify or reject it.
