Redskins hope Derrius Guice can extend Adrian Peterson’s career

The Washington Redskins got unexpected production out of Adrian Peterson last year.

Now the coaching staff hopes that can keep happening as the backfield transitions to a committee approach pending the return of Derrius Guice.

Redskins running backs coach Randy Jordan spoke with ESPN’s John Keim about the possible long-term effects of a committee approach.

“Yes it can,” Jordan said. “There’s no question the man has taken a lot of hits, but also delivered a lot. The thing I’m trying to get them to understand: All you guys can feed off each other. It allows them to come to the sidelines and see the whole game in a different light.”

Guice still has to get cleared and show he can continue on the proper development track before he plays a big role in the offense. But he figured to have an even bigger role last year before going down in the preseason.

With Peterson rumbling for 1,000-plus yards last year, the Redskins can’t really go wrong. The backfield, behind one of the best lines in football, should produce either way.

But with a talent like Dwayne Haskins developing at quarterback, it sure doesn’t hurt to have the long-term outlook in mind.
