Redskins have interesting connections to NFC players of the week

We’ve noted recently that former Washington Redskins pass rusher Preston Smith is having a breakout year of sorts with the Green Bay Packers after departing via free agency.

Right after that, Smith went ahead and won the NFC individual honors for the week for his three-sack performance in Week 3. It comes at an interesting time considering the lack of production from Montez Sweat so far, as well as the overall miserable look of the defense under coordinator Greg Manusky.

Also interesting is the New York Giants turning to Daniel Jones and his immediately producing a win and an NFC individual honor for his play in place of Eli Manning.

Meanwhile, the Redskins seem reluctant to put the ball in Dwayne Haskins’ hands, even with Case Keenum dealing with an injury.

If nothing else, the mind wonders “what if?” about Smith given the defensive struggles right now and only further reinforces the idea the Redskins shouldn’t be so reluctant to get Haskins on the field.
