Redskins flipping Case Keenum into Josh Rosen would make perfect sense

On one hand, Case Keenum could be the next starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins.

On the other…he could be the missing piece to a trade that nets the Redskins a potential franchise quarterback.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah floated a plausible scenario:

One of the most popular theories heading into the 2019 draft is the idea the Arizona Cardinals will look to draft Kyler Murray first overall, meaning they would be potentially willing to ship away Josh Rosen, a first-round pick last year.

But the package in return has to be worth it for the Cardinals. Almost regardless of price, the Redskins should have an interest in making it work.

And Keenum might be what pushes things over the edge. This would be enticing for the Cardinals because it would mean having an experienced veteran behind Murray or starting in front of him — as opposed to another year of Rosen. It would also mean getting max value back on Rosen via trade as soon as possible.

A genius scenario for the Redskins, really. Losing Keenum’s acumen via trade would be disappointing, but they’re in the luxurious position of still having Colt McCoy and capable of bringing back someone like Josh Johnson.

If the Cardinals want a veteran quarterback in this hypothetical scenario, the Redskins certainly have one to offer now.
