Redskins fans can take solace in the failed Kirk Cousins experiment in Minnesota

You know that feeling when you’ve gone through a rough breakup and things haven’t quite panned out since? Maybe you’ve tried to get back into the dating game without much success, and you’re feeling pretty down on your luck. Then you happen to catch a glimpse of your ex on social media, and see that they’re having just as bad of a time in life as you are?

It may be a bit shameful, but there’s some comfort there, right?

That’s probably how a lot of Washington Redskins fans are feeling right about now when they check in on the Kirk Cousins situation in Minnesota. After the Vikings lost to a Chicago Bears team that was manned by backup-quarterback Chase Daniels on Sunday, fans and players in Minnesota started to take aim at Cousins, blaming “the passing game” for much of their misfortune. On Sunday, the Vikings threw for less than 200 yards and scored zero points through the air, relying on RB Dalvin Cook to get them their only points late in the game.

According to The Athletic,  people within the Minnesota organization are starting to publicly question Cousins, and it starts with receiver Adam Theilen.

“At some point, you’re not going to be able to run the ball for 180 yards, even with the best running back in the NFL. That’s when you have to be able to throw the ball. … You have to be able to hit the deep balls.”

A piece from Yahoo! Sports has also taken aim at Cousins, saying that the Vikings decision to sign the middling QB was a mistake and that the signal-caller’s propensity to wilt under pressure is one of his biggest flaws. After leading the Washington Redskins to a 26-30-1 record over six seasons, Cousins is now 10-9-1 with his new team.

This is not an excuse for Washington fans to start crowing on social media and laughing at Vikings fans; you are hardly in any position to boast. Case Keenum, who used to play in Minnesota, has been pulled as the starting quarterback, and the rookie who was drafted with high hopes this year looked like he wasn’t even close to ready on Sunday. However, there’s nothing wrong with feeling a brief feeling of joy, knowing that your ex is still struggling to get things going in the right direction as well. You weren’t great together, but you’re not great apart either. Hopefully, in the end, both parties will find happiness.
