Redskins fall flat in ESPN’s future power rankings

The Washington Redskins aren’t viewed favorably in a new set of power rankings at ESPN.

Those ESPN power rankings take a look at the three-year outlook for each team in the NFL, weighing in both the win-now outlook as well as the potential upside on the roster.

Louis Riddick, Kevin Seifert and Field Yates rank the Redskins 27th, with the former having some interesting words for the outlook of Dwayne Haskins:

Biggest worry: While I love the future potential of Haskins and believe he is a Pro Bowl-caliber QB talent, I have little to no faith that Washington management will do the right thing and get him the weapons he needs at receiver, or the guidance/tutelage he deserves so he can realize his vast potential in the meeting room, on the field and off the field. Having many people who want to weigh in with their opinion on his development is not necessarily a good thing, and I fear that that could be what is shaping up to happen to this young man in D.C. — Riddick

Realistically, it is hard to fault in the stance about quarterbacks too much. Recent Redskins history isn’t filled with superb quarterback development or an environment that produces longevity and wins.

That said, the experts do point out the Redskins had a quality offseason and the defense should once again be a strong point. But given the unproven names under center, injuries to guys like Reuben Foster and the Trent Williams holdout, it’s understandable — until they prove otherwise — if the Redskins check in low on the long-term outlook rankings.
