Redskins expect to have Colt McCoy back and ready for OTAs

Despite undergoing “preventative maintenance” surgery and being put back onto crutches, it sounds like Washington Redskins’ QB Colt McCoy will be ready to play by OTAs.

On Tuesday at the NFL Owners’ meetings, Redskins coach Jay Gruden discussed the injury, surgery and recovery, saying that it was a “minor procedure.”

“What happened was when he had the injury, we were aggressive trying to get him back on the field, so fast that we probably didn’t give it time enough to heal the right way,” Gruden said, via Redskins.com. “So they went back in and did a small procedure to make sure that thing is on track to be full strength by the season.”

McCoy broke his fibula in a game vs. the Philadelphia Eagles on December 4th, after he was starting in place of injured QB Alex Smith.

Earlier this year, the Redskins traded for QB Case Keenum, who they imagine will compete with McCoy for a starting job. Gruden also said that they Redskins plan on adding a third quarterback, be it through free agency for the NFL Draft.
