Redskins’ Ereck Flowers deal might cost them notable compensatory pick

The Washington Redskins might have committed a slight blunder with the signing of Ereck Flowers — and not in the way some might think.

Said mistake might pertain to the compensatory pick process. Bringing aboard Flowers might cost them the sixth-round pick they would have received for the loss of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, who decided to sign with the Chicago Bears.

And while yes, this is just a sixth-round pick, the Redskins did cough up a fourth-round pick to bring Clinton-Dix to town as a half-season rental. Getting back a pick, at least, would have helped ease the pain of the loss.

Instead, the Redskins put this at risk by bringing aboard a first-round product who hasn’t been able to avoid bust status so far, making the Redskins his third team.

It is a big gamble for the Redskins, and one that suggests there isn’t much of a long-term vision in place.
