Redskins’ Colt McCoy has ‘preventative’ surgery on leg

It looks like one of the (endless) candidates for backup QB in Washington will be on crutches for the foreseeable future.

Washington’s Colt McCoy underwent another procedure on broken fibula, which was described as “preventative maintenance.”

McCoy went down with the injury late in the 2018 season, but he threatened to make a comeback if the Redskins snuck into the playoffs. Now, he is back under the knife.

It has yet to be reported when the surgery took place, but McCoy is expected to be back in time for offseason workouts.

The Redskins made a big move earlier in the year by trading for QB Case Keenum, sending a 7th round pick to the Denver Broncos.

With Denver, Keenum went 6-10, throwing for 18 touchdowns with 15 interceptions and an average QBR of 81.2. Prior to that one season with the Broncos, Keenum went 11-3 with the Minnesota Vikings, leading them to the NFC Championship Game. In that season, Keenum threw for 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions with an average 98.3 QBR.

Whether Washington gets the “good Keenum” or the “bad Keenum” remains to be seen, but they had better hope there is a healthy backup ready to step in behind him. QB’s tend to drop like flies when they come to the nation’s capital.
