Redskins coaches expecting big things from ‘forgotten guy’ Cam Sims

Cam Sims didn’t need long to make a big impact in workouts this offseason for the Washington Redskins.

Redskins coaches aren’t exactly surprised.

In fact, coaches such as offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell are expecting even more before the season.

“The injury happens, and [Sims] is kind of a forgotten guy for a year. We draft some young guys. We have some veterans coming back,” O’Connell said, according to Kyle Stackpole of Redskins.com. “But Cam’s in a great spot right now. I think he’s motivated to make sure that he’s in the mix every single day and when his number’s called.”

Sims was undrafted last year and looked like he might have a chance to break into the rotation during the regular season before going down with an injury.

But O’Connell and most around the team seem to agree Sims benefitted from the year of learning despite being unable to play. Now the 6’5″ playmaker is out there again turning some heads.

The Redskins indeed added some interesting guys this offseason around the draft. But given his leg up on the competition after a year of learning, Sims figures to be well on his way to an interesting role after securing a roster spot.
