Redskins cleaned up a big penalty problem vs. Dolphins

The Washington Redskins lived up to the hype under interim head coach Bill Callahan.

This could be taken a few different ways. But one of the big hype items after the firing of Jay Gruden was the stressing of accountability and cleaning up of silly mistakes such as penalties.

Going into the team’s Week 6 game against Miami, the offensive line was one of the NFL’s most-flagged units.

Callahan told the media the following after the win, according to NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay:

“We really wanted to clean up the line of scrimmage penalties we had…We try to stay away from holdings, hands outside the framework of the body. I thought our players were really focused and concentrated on getting that done.”

Case Keenum didn’t get sacked. The running game had more than 100 yards. And the line didn’t get called for one of the team’s six flags.

Is it a testament to Callahan? The quality of the opponent? The unit becoming more cohesive as the season continues?

Maybe a little bit of everything, but either way it’s a good sign as the season continues.
