Redskins claim LB Tanner Vallejo off waivers

That didn’t take long — the Washington Redskins were quick to jump on the surprise release of linebacker Tanner Vallejo on Monday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and confirmed by the team.

The Arizona Cardinals used Vallejo heavily in the preseason, then waived him on September 1 while trimming the roster.

Vallejo, 24, was also cut by the Cleveland Browns the day after the Super Bowl, which led the Cardinals to claim him. He started his career in Buffalo in 2017 as a sixth-round pick.

The Redskins clearly like what they see with the linebacker, though, as claiming him means carrying him on the 53-man roster. He’ll be an instant asset on special teams and linebacker depth.
