Redskins claim former Eagles RB Wendell Smallwood off of waivers

It appears that the Washington Redskins weren’t completely satisfied with their roster after cutting it down to 53-players on Saturday.

According to Field Yates, with ESPN, the Redskins claimed former Philadelphia Eagles running back, Wendell Smallwood. In three years with the Eagles, Smallwood totaled five touchdowns.

The Redskins are pretty set at running back, with Adrian Peterson and Derrius Guice leading the way. On Saturday, Washington decided to keep Chris Thompson and Byron Marshall, and they cut Samaje Perine.

We don’t yet know how the Redskins plan to utilize Smallwood, and whether or not that means that another RB — likely Marshall — will be cut from the team, but Smallwood has shown a nice ability in the kick-return game, as well as catching passes out of the backfield.
