According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Washington Redskins are looking to add to their offensive line depth by reaching an agreement to sign offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas on a two-year contract worth up to $5.3 million.
Lucas has played for six years in the NFL, moving from the Detroit Lions, where he was drafted, to the Los Angeles Rams, New Orleans Saints, and Chicago Bears. He has shifted aroud on the offensive line, playing both left tackle and right tackle.
It is a signing that makes sense for the Redskins, as they look to fill the eventual hole left by Trent Williams, should he be traded, as is expected. Lucas will now likely compete with Geron Christian for the starting LT spot, and potentially with Donald Penn as well, who said he would be interested in returning to the Redskins in 2020.
