Redskins agree to sign former QB-turned-TE Logan Thomas to team

The Washington Redskins made a tight end signing early on Thursday morning, agreeing with former Detroit Lions player Logan Thomas on a deal that will bring him to Washington.

You may not know everything there is to know about Thomas, so let’s offer a brief synopsis. He was the sixth quarterback drafted in 2014. being taken by the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth round. Yes, you read that right — he played QB at Virginia Tech in college. It wasn’t until bouncing around the league a bit and landing with the Lions that Thomas made the switch to TE.

After being picked up off of the Lions practice squad by the Buffalo Bills, Thomas saw significant playing time in 2017. He has two career touchdowns, one of which came against the Redskins last season, ironically enough.

So did the Redskins really sign this guy as their new starting TE? Probably not, but he does add some depth to the roster, and he comes extremely cheap. Don’t get too worried, I expect the Redskins to continue to pursue a TE, be it in free agency or the draft, that is capable of becoming their star pass-catcher.
