Reds pay touching tributes to popular Liverpool supporter who died with coronavirus

Hundreds of Liverpool fans have paid tribute to a devoted Reds supporter who has died with coronavirus.

Danny Sharma passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning after falling ill from the virus a week ago.

The 38-year-old, who was in a high risk category due to his diabetes and other health issues, documented his struggle with Covid-19 during his time in hospital but lost the battle this week.

After Danny's family shared the sad news with the ECHO, hundreds of other Liverpool fans shared their condolences on social media.

Karen Nicholson said: "Thoughts and prayers go out for all the family Rip Danny Ynwa xxxx"

Jean Gallagher also said: "Deepest condolences to all the family RIP Danny x"

Elaine Geoghegan added: "So so sad Deepest sympathy to Dannys family so unfair."

Others, posted in the comments section of the ECHO article, many paying tribute from the LFC family.

Deecain said: "RIP YNWA from a female LFC match day steward xx"

Another added: "Reds 4ever Dan....god bless big fella. YNWA 6X"

Reds1977 also said: "Once a red always a red, R.I.P Danny my friend. YNWA."

Danny, who was from Hammersmith, was described as having a "big heart" by his devastated brother.

Vinny Sharma told the ECHO: "He was a fantastic guy with a big heart, and he is someone who we are going to miss a great deal.

"Hopefully he will find some peace."

Vinny said staff at Hammersmith Hospital "did their best" for his brother, who lived with their mum Parveen in the family home in Hillingdon, Middlesex, "until the very end."

He said Danny had been mainly staying at home since the pandemic struck, but may have contracted the virus attending essential medical appointments.

Vinny said: "The were very good, all the way through they were trying their best for him, even until right at the end they were trying their best to see if they could help him.

"We lost my dad around 18 months ago, he had cancer but a chest infection and pneumonia killed him, so we knew what happens with lung problems.

"But we were hopeful until the end, I had prepared for the worst but still hoped for the best.

"I have to be honest, before this I didn't take it that seriously. I thought it was just a cold and if you are young you will be fine.

"But when you see it close up it brings home how serious it is."

Vinny said his brother was a huge football fan, and before health and mobility problems took their toll would travel to watch Liverpool games at Anfield.

Vinny, who is an Arsenal fan, said Liverpool's charge to what would have been this year's title left Danny "with a smug smile on his face."

He said: "He had been to Anfield a lot of times, he absolutely loved Liverpool."

Vinny also shared a video of Danny playing in a charity match at Anfield in 2009, which he said was a dream come true.

He said: "He had a lot of mobility problems in recent years so it is strange to see him running around.

"I hadn't seen him running for a long time, but now he is at peace hopefully he can run again."
