A total of 14 people have died at a care home in West Lothian following an ongoing outbreak of coronavirus.
Earlier this month a small number of residents were confirmed to have lost their lives to COVID-19 after a cluster was identified at the the Redmill Care home, with a further four having died last week.
Today, Neil Findlay MSP announced that 14 residents have now died at the site in East Whitburn, West Lothian.
On October 17 it was reported that in addition to those who died, 35 residents and 20 staff members had the virus.
An HC-One spokesman said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with all families who have lost a loved one from coronavirus and we are doing our utmost to support them during this difficult time.
“Supporting our residents is at the heart of what we do and our colleagues are doing everything they can to care for residents at Redmill in what are hugely difficult circumstances.
“We have a comprehensive coronavirus contingency plan in place and we are working closely with NHS Lothian and Public Health to ensure we are doing all we can to respond to and overcome this outbreak.
“A very significant amount of resource and senior leadership time is being dedicated to this home so that we can help as many residents as possible to return to good health.”
The news comes as Nicola Sturgeon announced that a total of 1,401 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours.
Sadly, the First Minister also reported 18 further deaths, taking the number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 2688.
