Reddit has disabled a well-known Irish subreddit, 'Coronavirus Ireland', after discovering it was publishing mass amounts of Covid misinformation.
Among some of the content put out by users were claims that anyone who received the vaccine would die after 730 days, as well as false reports about case numbers and the Government’s intentions.
A notice has been placed on the forum stating that it has been taken down, with all past information now hidden from public view.
Many people claimed the page started out as a handy place to see all Covid news in Ireland but quickly turned into an “anti-vaxxers conspiracy theory sub.”
Reddit users have been responding to the group's disappearance, with one saying; “I think at the start anyway it was a good sub to go to for coronavirus news related to Ireland but then after a while, it turned into anti-vaxxers conspiracy theory sub.”
Another wrote; “I subbed at the start thinking it was actually useful information. It wasn't. Then I forgot to unsub and got a great laugh out of it.”
A third insisted that “it should have been renamed conspiracytheory_ireland a long time ago especially considering that the head of the dictatorship just deleted comments or banned users that weren't anti-MSM.”
Others on the platform are angry the page was associated with Ireland for so long before action was taken, as one person said; “It's a genuine disgrace they have had our country's name in their sub. It's an absolute s**t show of anti vaxx conspiracy theory nonsense. Glad to see it gone.”
