Reddit Sends Sydney Into A Tizzy After Spotting Botched Central Station Sign Detail

Sydneysiders perusing r/Sydney have been left gobsmacked after an eagle-eyed user pointed out a cheeky little detail in the iconic Central Train Station sign. Beware, once you see it, you’ll never forget it.

Taking to r/Sydney, user u/Vegetable_Net_6354 cursed fellow Redditors by pointing out that the Central Train Station sign houses a botched C.

“Why is this ‘C’ different to the others?” the Redditor questioned alongside a photo of the abomination.

Oh no. (Image source: Reddit / r/Sydney)

Rightfully so, everyone and their mamas flocked to the post with a mixed bag of comments, with some even calling out the user for bringing awareness to the botched font.

“This is frustrating to become aware of,” one person joked.

“The usual C is late for his shift because of train delays. This is the apprentice C standing in. Just doing the best he can,” another Redditor penned, poking fun at the endless delays of Sydney Trains.

“I noticed this a few years ago. It upsets me to no end,” wrote a third.

Another user also pointed out that the “E” and “L” are also cooked, noting that the letters were quite wide in comparison to its peers.

“I noticed this too for the first time last weekend. The L is also very wide,” u/Chatpetit2000 wrote.

With Central being so close to the PEDESTRIAN.TV office, we decided to check it out for ourselves to make sure this wasn’t some AI trickery!

And yep, here she is!

Why is the “C” on the Central Train Station sign different?

While there hasn’t been an official explanation behind why the C is looking a bit iffy, one Redditor, u/Zaxacavabanem, claimed that the “sign was adapted from the original cemetery sign”.

Spooky! (Image source: Reddit / r/Sydney)

Central Station was built on the old site of the former Devonshire Street Cemetery (spooky). Per the State Library NSW, it was a major cemetery for 19th-century Sydney and had Church of England, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Congregationalist, Wesleyan, Quaker and Jewish sections.

It was officially closed in 1867, and years later, in 1901, the NSW Government announced plans for Central Station, the bustling hub we all know and love abide.

Another Redditor joked that the cheeky “C” was an impromptu eye test for commuters.

As someone who makes bootleg memes and utilises basic graphic design skills for half of their job, the C stomps on my soul. However, on the plus side, at least the sign can now be a talking point for folks passing through.
