Red Wings' Gustav Nyquist loses temper, could face suspension

ST. PAUL, Minn. _ Gustav Nyquist is likely to face further repercussion for his reckless stick work Sunday on Jared Spurgeon.

During the first period of the game at XCel Energy Center, Spurgeon cross-checked Nyquist from behind during a puck battle along the boards. Nyquist responded by turning around and using the tip of his blade to hit Spurgeon in the face.

Nyquist was assessed a double-minor for high-sticking on the penalty. Spurgeon continued to play.

Nyquist never has been suspended in his NHL career. The action was certainly intentional _ but so was Brad Marchand slew-footing Niklas Kronwall during the Jan. 24 game, and Marchand (who has been suspended six games by the NHL), got away with a $10,000 fine, the maximum allowed.
