Red Wings fall to Blue Jackets again, 2-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio _ The Detroit Red Wings failed to win a game in three meetings against the Columbus Blue Jackets this season.

The Wings lost, 2-1, to the Blue Jackets on Saturday night at Nationwide Arena. Defenseman Niklas Kronwall and forward Frans Nielsen returned but the Wings saw their winless streak extend to three games.

The Wings end a three-game road trip at Minnesota on Sunday.

The Wings lost 3-2 in overtime to the Blue Jackets at home on Tuesday. The Wings then lost 6-3 at Washington on Thursday and fell again in their final meeting of the season with the Blue Jackets on Saturday.

The line of Boone Jenner (goal, assist), Cam Atkinson (goal) and Brandon Dubinsky (two assists) was too much for the Wings. That line has accounted for six goals and eight assists for 14 points over the last five games for the Blue Jackets.

Petr Mrazek made 37 saves for the Wings. Sergei Bobrovsky made 35 saves for the Blue Jackets, including a glove save on a shot by Tomas Tatar with 3:07 left.

Atkinson snapped a 1-1 tie at 11:27 of the second period. Dubinsky, draped by Wings defenseman Brendan Smith, slipped a backhand pass across the front of the crease and Atkinson knocked the puck in for his team-leading 27th goal.

Thomas Vanek scored on a backhand during a power play at 16:06 of the first period to tie the game, 1-1. The Wings have now scored a power-play goal for in three consecutive games.

It's just the second time this season they have scored on the power play in three consecutive games. The other stretch came in the first month of the season.

Vanek leads the team with 14 goals this season. Zetterberg leads the Wings with 28 assists and 40 points and earned his 555th career assist. Darren Helm also assisted on Vanek's goal.

The Wings fell behind 1-0 on Jenner's 10th goal of the season at 9:26 of the first. Jenner scored on a deflection following a shot by Dubinsky.

The Wings were playing for the first time since owner Mike Ilitch died on Friday. The Blue Jackets had a moment of silence before the game to honor Ilitch.

The Wings didn't change add anything to their sweaters for the game, but may do something on Wednesday when they return home to face the Blues.
