Red Wings coach Blashill on forward Street: 'He is going to be just fine'

Detroit Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill began his Saturday morning skate presser with an update on forward Ben Street.

Street was injured during Friday's game between the Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs.

"Ben was cut in the neck," Blashill said. "They explored the wound. There was no major damages. He was taken to hospital last night to make sure. He was released from the hospital last night and he is on his way home.

"We would like to thank the Toronto doctors. They did an outstanding job. Our medical staff couldn't say enough good things about them. He is going to be just fine."

Blashill said the cut was not major, adding, "no major arteries, no major veins. Everything is fine. Should be no issue moving forward.

"He had unreal composure. He had his hand on his neck. I looked up and saw the replay and that's when I really got scared. I was hoping everything was OK. But we got word pretty quick that it looked like it was going to be just fine."

Street was signed as a free agent July 1.
