
The Red Wave 1 naval drills got underway Sunday for countries overlooking the Red Sea with the participation of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Sudan, Djibouti, Yemen and observers from Somalia.
Commander of the western fleet Saqr al-Harbi said that the exercise, which concludes Thursday, aims to bolster naval security for the Red Sea countries.
It also aims to protect regional waters, bolster military cooperation and exchange expertise among participants given the significance of the Red Sea as a vital global economic waterway, he added.
