Red squirrels play in the snow in Northumberland in a scene straight out of a Christmas card

Not feeling Christmassy enough yet?

This video shows a winter scene that is straight out of a Christmas card and is sure to put you in the festive spirit.

Lynne Roddham captured this lovely footage of cheeky little red squirrels playing in last week's snow in her garden in Allenheads, Northumberland.

Red squirrels are a rare sight in England, and catching a glimpse of them is always a delight. They have largely disappeared from most of England, where their larger grey cousins are the only squirrels you're likely to see.

This larger relative was brought here from North America, and can out-compete the red for food as well as carrying a virus that can be fatal to reds.

But parts of the North East are lucky enough to still have native red squirrel populations, and their are plenty of places in Northumberland where you can still spot these pretty little woodland creatures.

Lynne's video shows a pair of them scurrying through thick banks of snow and over snow-capped branches, picking up food from her garden feeder and playing around some of her garden's Christmas decorations.

The squirrels often visit Lynne's garden, but the sight of them in the snow was extra-special (Lynne Roddham)

Although unusual for most people, red squirrels are a fairly common sight in the area, and Lynne has captured videos of their antics in her garden in all seasons.

She even leaves food out for them in a special red squirrel feeder, which helps them get through the tough winter months.

But the sight of the cute little creatures never gets old, no matter how often they visit.

"We get up to nine in the garden at once sometimes," she said.

"I love seeing them."
