BOSTON _ The Red Sox will take part in the 2020 Little League Classic.
Boston and the Baltimore Orioles will face off Sunday, Aug. 23, at Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pa. The ballpark serves as the home of the Williamsport Crosscutters, a Class A affiliate of the Phillies. This will be the fourth installment of the game, which is broadcast on ESPN and conducted as a collaborative effort between Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora has some insight into what the game entails _ his older brother, Joey, took part in the 2017 edition. Joey Cora is the third base coach for the Pirates, and they faced the Cardinals roughly five miles from the Lamade Stadium home of the Little League World Series.
"At the beginning it looks kind of hectic with the travel, but you get there and you show up early and you spend some time with the kids," Cora said. "It's something that with the Pirates and the Cardinals, they loved it. It was fun."
It will technically be a home game for Baltimore. Williamsport is about a three-hour drive from Camden Yards.
