Red political graffiti has been sprayed onto the wall of an elderly woman's house in Cardiff overnight.
Two prominent walls in Whitchurch were targeted by vandals who scrawled "Cymru Rydd" in giant letters onto the bricks.
The Welsh words, which translate as "Free Wales" were sprayed on to the boundary walls of two homes on Church Road, between Llandaff North and Whitchurch.
Officers from South Wales Police spotted the damage as they drove past early on Friday morning and alerted colleagues.
A police spokesman said: "Officers noticed a slogan painted on a wall in Church Road, Whitchurch, while on routine patrol this morning and provided an update to the immediate neighbours."
Neighbours have criticised those responsible for damaging the home of one of the "loveliest, loyal Welsh women" they know.
A spokesman for Cardiff council said because the damage was caused to private property, it was up to the owner to remove the graffiti themselves.
