There are growing concerns that further travel regulations may be imposed on arrivals from Spain because of an upsurge in Covid infections.
More than one in 35 travellers returning to the UK from Spain were found to have the virus, according to new figures. Data from NHS Test and Trace shows that 2.9 per cent of travellers who visited the popular holiday destination tested positive after arrival in the UK.
Although Covid infections are generally falling in Spain, the 2.9 per cent positive rate of returning UK holidaymakers is well above the figure for UK residents, which, according to the latest ONS figures, currently stands at 1.2 per cent.
The next travel update from UK transport secretary Grant Shapps is scheduled for next week and he had promised there will be no changes before then.
Four more nations were added to the list in the last review.
In the latest update from the Government, Mexico, Georgia, La Reunion and Mayotte were put on the red list.
Travellers now arriving in the UK from these four destinations must enter the £2,285 quarantine hotel, even if they have had both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.
