Red Line subway service resumes after reroute due to person on tracks

A CTA Red Line train is halted at Harrison as the transit agency reroutes service to elevated tracks Aug. 15, 2019, because of a person walking in the subway tunnel near the Chicago station, 800 N. State St. | Kathy Chaney/Sun-Times

Normal CTA Red Line service is resuming after trains were rerouted to elevated tracks Thursday because of a person on the tracks at a subway station on the Near North Side.

Power to the tracks was cut after a train operator saw a male walking on the tracks at 8:18 a.m. near the Chicago station, 800 N. State St., according to CTA spokesman Steve Mayberry and Chicago police.

All trains were rerouted to elevated tracks between Cermak-Chinatown and Fullerton, according to the CTA. Normal subway routing resumed with residual delays shortly after 9 a.m.
