Red Line service resumes with delays after person pulled from tracks near 47th

CTA Red Line service was suspended because of a person walking on the tracks Sept. 23, 2019, near the 47th Street station, 220 W. 47th St. | Sun-Times file photo

Service was halted for nearly half an hour Monday on the CTA Red Line because of a person on the tracks on the South Side.

Trains were stopped in both directions shortly before 3:30 p.m. because of an “unauthorized person on the tracks” near the 47th Street station, 220 W. 47th St., according to a service alert from the CTA.

A CTA spokeswoman said power was cut and police responded to the area.

Police said officers were dispatched at 3:25 p.m. to check on a person’s well-being and removed someone from the tracks in the 4200 block of South Wentworth Avenue. It was not immediately clear whether the person was taken into custody or brought to a hospital.

The person was not injured, according to the CTA.

Service resumed with residual delays by 3:53 p.m., according to the CTA.
