Red Hot Chili Peppers cancel gig after Anthony Kiedis is admitted to hospital

Red Hot Chili Peppers have been forced to cancel a concert after front man Anthony Kiedis was admitted to hospital on Saturday afternoon.

The band’s bassist Flea informed concert goers of the news on stage at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre in California.

“Anthony is on his way to the hospital right now and we're unable to play this evening,” he said.

“We are devastated about it. We're really sad. We love you so much. We live to rock... But unfortunately there's a medical thing that happened and he needed to deal with it.”

The exact cause of the 53-year-old singer’s hospitalisation is unknown at this time.

The band’s drummer Chad Smith wished Kiedis a “speedy recovery” on Twitter.

"NO one's more disappointed than us that we couldn't perform tonight," he wrote. "Sending love and a speedy recovery to my brother Anthony."

Messages of condolence for Kiedis have poured in on social media.

"Rock gods, please Anthony Kiedis alone," wrote one user on Twitter.

"Just woke up and heard the breaking news, my prayers are with the lead singer of #ChiliPeppers front man," added another.

A representative for Kiedis did not immediately respond to request for comment.
