Red Dwarf could return to TV after legal dispute comes to an end

Red Dwarf could be making a return to our TV screens after an argument between its two creators has come to an end. Future series of the show had been put on hold due to a rights dispute between Doug Naylor and Rob Grant.

The pair created the classic British sci-fi show together but their partnership ended in the mid-1990s. Naylor continued to write later episodes of the show - which stars Craig Charles as Dave Lister - on his own or with other collaborators about

But after Naylor was removed from the board of Grant Naylor Productions, which the pair founded together, he launched a High Court action against Grant. Naylor claimed had he not been removed from the board, UKTV would have commissioned two further special episodes of Red Dwarf. However, as the rights issued continued these episodes were put on hold.

However, it seems the former scriptwriting team has reached an agreement. The company is now looking to create more episodes of the sci-fi comedy.

A statement published by Grant Naylor Productions said: "Rob Grant and Doug Naylor are delighted to announce that the ongoing dispute over the Red Dawrf rights has been resolved. Moving onwards and upwards, Rob and Doug hope to launch separate iterations of Red Dwarf across various media, working again with the cast and other valued partners, and wish each other the very best.

"Smoke a kipper, Red Dwarf will be back for Breakfast!!"

It is not yet known what other "media" will be created using the Red Dawrf universe but it is likely that fans will soon be able to watch new episodes.
