Rockstar Games’ beloved Western epic Red Dead Redemption has officially arrived on mobile devices for the first time. The game launched on Dec. 2, 2025 on both iOS and Android.
Netflix subscribers can access the complete game at no additional cost, while non-subscribers can purchase it standalone for $39.99.
Red Dead Redemption rides onto mobile for the first time
The mobile release marks a historic moment for the critically acclaimed 2010 title, bringing John Marston’s journey across the American frontier to smartphones and tablets. Netflix subscribers can download and play the entire experience through the Netflix app without any ads or in-app purchases. That sets up Red Dead Redemption as one of the most significant gaming offerings in Netflix’s catalog to date.

The mobile version includes the full single-player campaign alongside the fan-favorite Undead Nightmare zombie expansion. The game also includes all Game of the Year Edition bonus content. Much like the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy games on mobile, Rockstar has optimized the experience with mobile-friendly controls, ensuring the gameplay feels natural on smaller screens.

Players should note that the mobile version requires an active internet connection and does not support offline play. The game is compatible with iOS and Android devices. There is also a performance mode available for select higher-end devices to enable smoother framerates.
Enhanced editions launch on current-gen consoles
Alongside the mobile release, Rockstar has launched enhanced editions for Red Dead Redemption. These versions, developed in collaboration with Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games, bring significant performance and visual upgrades to the classic game, running at a smooth 60 frames per second.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions support HDR and up to 4K resolution. These versions will also utilize PC level Ultra settings for enhanced level of detail, draw distance, and shadow rendering. The PlayStation 5 edition takes particular advantage of the DualSense controller’s haptics and adaptive triggers as well.
In a consumer-friendly move, Rockstar is offering free digital upgrades to existing owners on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and backward-compatible Xbox One versions. Original Switch owners can even upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition for free from the Nintendo eShop.

Red Dead Redemption mobile: A strategic win for Netflix gaming
This release represents Netflix’s most ambitious gaming acquisition yet. The decision once again demonstrates the streaming giant’s commitment to building a premium library. Especially in an era where traditional console giants like Microsoft are moving away from first-party hardware, this might set Netflix up for immense success in the future.
With over 100 titles now available through Netflix Games, the service has seen impressive growth, with the company reporting a 180 percent increase in downloads last year. By offering Red Dead Redemption, Netflix adds substantial value to its subscriptions. Especially when compared to the nearly $40 pricing of the standalone game, the subscription seems like a no-brainer.
