Red card 30 seconds in left Wishaw up against it, says boss Mark Daly

Wishaw boss Mark Daly says his side were up against it when defender Neil Reynolds was sent off 30 seconds into Saturday’s 3-1 Scottish Junior Cup second round defeat against St Roch’s.

However, Daly says his players told him it was deserved.

Daly said: “As soon as the ref gave the foul I think he’s got to send him off. As a defender, I thought it was a wee bit harsh but a few of the boys who were closer said it was.

“I think it was a bit of a coming together, but he had fouled the boy so I have no complaints about the decision.

“But it put the game-plan up in the air 30 seconds in, so it was a tough ask.

“The boys did really well, considering the circumstances, but I’m disappointed with the goals we lost because two of them were from set pieces.

“But we never really got cut open, and it would have been quite easy to have collapsed, so I’m disappointed with the goals, but we were a credit to ourselves.”

Wishaw host Glasgow Perthshire in a West of Scotland League Conference C clash on Saturday, and Daly hopes they get back on track.

He said: “It’s another tough game but it’s at home, so we need to give ourselves a better platform.

“This conference is the most difficult one, there aren’t any ‘gimmes’ in this league, every game is tough, so to get them at home is good.”
