Red Arrows to make stop at Prestwick Airport as part of VJ Day celebrations

The iconic Red Arrows are coming to Prestwick tomorrow.

The squadron will be in Scotland as part of VJ Day (Japan Day), marking the 75th anniversary of the end of  World War 2.

A flypast will take place in Edinburgh before the Arrows head for Prestwick to make a refuelling stop.

They are expected to touch down in Ayrshire around 11.40am before a planned departure at 1.40pm.

Fans will be able to catch a glimpse of the famous aircraft before they head off for another flypast in Belfast.

Bosses at Prestwick Airport are keen to avoid a repeat of overcrowding which greeted the arrival of the world's largest aircraft, the Antonov AN-225 a fortnight ago.

Around 6,000 people turned up on the airport's perimeter, causing traffic chaos and a lack of social distancing.

As a result, the airport will be opening Car Park 3 free of charge to help alleviate with crowding.

The airport are stressing the need to encourage social distancing – stay 2m away for others outwith the household, wash hands regularly, wear a facecovering if in close proximity of others and avoid crowded places.

People are also urged not to park on the roads and grass verges.
