Renowned as the UK’s biggest air event, Bournemouth Air Festival takes place this week.

There will be four days of action and entertainment in the air, on land and at sea. The award-winning and internationally renowned show has entertained more than 8.5 million people since 2008.

From Thursday September 1 until Sunday September 4, people will take to Bournemouth Pier and the clifftops to witness the annual display of Britain’s finest aircraft. The event is thought to generate millions of pounds each year for the local economy.

The Red Arrows will have stunning displays on all four days of the festival, which will mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Several other aircrafts, including the Spitfire and RAF Typhoon, will also be displaying over Poole Bay.

Earlier this year, the Mayor of Bournemouth, councillor Robert Lawton, wrote to the Queen, inviting her to the festival. The council has now confirmed that the Queen will not be attending but said it hoped very much that the air festival was “a successful and enjoyable one for all those attending”.

Airspace and water restrictions will be in place for the duration of the festival, which mean members of the public will not be allowed to fly drones or travel by boat across the exclusion zones.

“Should any breach of these spaces occur during the event, officers will be deployed to take positive action against those involved,” Dorset Police superintendent Wayne Nock warned.

What time can I see the Red Arrows at Bournemouth Air Festival 2022?

Those interested in catching a glimpse of the famous Red Arrows will be able to see displays at 4.30pm on Thursday September 1, Friday September 2 and Saturday September 3. On Sunday September 4, the jets will fly over at the earlier time of 1.30pm.
