Recycling centres set to reopen, say Antrim and Newtownabbey Council

Antrim and Newtownabbey Council are reopening dumps in a phased approach with a number of drop-off points for waste disposal available from Friday and recycling from Monday, May 4.

Householders can visit a number of drop-off points for waste disposal in the borough from May 1.

They will be asked to provide ID as proof of residency in the area.

  • Bagged waste and boxes will only be accepted.
  • Bags should not contain food waste.
  • Liquid waste such as paints and large bulky items will not be accepted.
  • No trailers or vans will be allowed access.

Friday, May 1

Valley Leisure Centre car park : 8am - 12noon

Neillsbrook Community Centre car park: 2pm - 6pm

Saturday, May 2

Antrim Civic Centre car park:  8am - 12noon and 2pm - 6pm

Monday, May 4

Crumlin Community Centre car park: 8am - 12noon

Sixmile Leisure Centre car park: 2pm-6pm

Tuesday, May 5

Ballyearl Arts and Leisure Centre car park: 8am-12 noon

Neillsbrook Community Centre car park : 2pm-6pm

Wednesday, May 6

Crumlin Community Centre car park: 8am-12 noon

Valley Leisure Centre car park : 2pm-6pm

Thursday, May 7

Sixmile Leisure Centre car park: 8am-12 noon

Ballyearl Arts and Leisure car park : 2pm-6pm

Household Recycling Centres

From Monday May 4, household recycling centres will open at Newpark at Antrim Civic Centre Car Park, O'Neill Road from 9am to 8pm Monday to Saturday.

From Monday May 11, Bruslee, Newtownabbey Craigmore, Randalstown and Crumlin from 9am to 8pm Monday to Saturday.

Each slot is five minutes for around five or six bags of waste.

Residents will have to turn up at their relevant holding area 10 minutes prior to their slot .

The Holding Centres :

  • Newpark : Antrim Civic Centre Car Park
  • Bruslee: Sixmile Leisure Centre Car Park
  • Craigmore: John Street Car Park, Randalstown
  • O’Neill Road: Valley Leisure Centre Car Park
  • Crumlin: Crumlin Leisure Centre Car Park

All necessary social distancing measures will be complied with which means staff will not be able to assist customers to remove waste.

The following items will only be accepted:

  • general household waste in black bags
  • garden waste,
  • cardboard,
  • timber.

No food waste, furniture or rubble will be accepted and no trailers or vans will be allowed access.

Anyone who is self-isolating or has symptoms of Covid-19,such as a high fever or a new and continuous cough, must not visit under any circumstances.

A spokesperson from the Council said: "Visits must only be made if absolutely necessary, if storing the waste at home presents a health and safety risk.

"Try to combine visits with other activities, such as grocery shopping, to limit the amount of travel.

"Refrain from undertaking unnecessary DIY, conducting clear outs, creating excess garden waste or other waste generating activities until the service is operating normally again."
