Staff at West Lothian’s Blackburn recycling centre managed to put a smile on the face of customers recently after creating a ‘big band’ of soft toys at the entrance to spread a little festive cheer.
Writing on the volunteer group’s Facebook page, Jim Black, a member of West Lothian Litter Pickers, said: “ How often does a trip to the recycling and waste centre bring a smile to your face? Had to take some empty cardboard boxes to Blackburn this morning. The efforts of the staff certainly made me smile.
“Well done to the folks in Operational Services West Lothian Council for their efforts!”
Jim was happy to share his pictures of a “band” of soft toys, including headline acts of Winnie the Pooh and Minnie Mouse.
And while some of them - including the drummer- are looking a little brittle, they appear to be making the best of the venue, with a range musical instruments and even a couple of amps.
Fellow litter pickers also gave the display the thumbs up, showering the post with comments.
The band was deposited at the Blackburn recycling centre to greet customers arriving at the site this week.
Other recycling sites around West Lothian have their own welcome displays built by staff, including a gorilla climbing on the barrier at Oakbank in Livingston.
A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “Our dedicated recycling centres teams are committed to ensuring that their visitors have the best possible experience.
“Many customers have commented that this fun display, made using items than local residents no longer require, has really brightened their day.
“This helps create a positive atmosphere at recycling centres for both staff and residents, which benefits everyone.”
