Recycled waste fire in Dalkeith leaves trail of thick smoke across Midlothian

A recycled waste fire in Dalkeith on Friday was safely extinguished, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed.

Locals took to Facebook to share images of the fire, which produced thick black smoke which could be seen from some distance away.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service mobilised an appliance, where they found recycled waste ablaze.

The fire is understood to have occurred at NWH Mayfield, a waste management company with premises at the Mayfield Industrial Estate in Midlothian.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told Edinburgh Live the fire was safely extinguished by firefighters after they were called out.

No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze.
