Recruitment firm Merje expands into Scotland after record financial year

A Manchester-based national recruitment firm has expanded into Scotland after announcing a record financial year.

Merje said on Monday it has expanded its market offering north of the border by appointing Barry McDonald as business manager for Scotland - to support its growth plans in the "strategically important territory".

It comes after Merje, which has offices in Manchester and central London, recently revealed a record annual turnover of £10.06m.

Merje said that operating in a new location - home to some of the world’s leading financial services and FTSE-listed firms, will allow it to expand its "already extensive network of trusted client partnerships".

Merje MD and co-founder Richard Abelson said: “We are in a strong position given that we already have some long established relationships in Scotland and, given the importance and scale of the Scottish market, we are keen to further our physical presence there.

“Barry is extremely well regarded in the Scottish market and we are delighted to welcome him to Merje. We now look forward to achieving the same levels of success in Scotland as we have observed across the rest of the UK.

“Having recently enjoyed our most successful financial year-to-date, I am confident Barry is the ideal person to advance us along our continued pathway so that we can surpass our long-term commercial goals.”

Mr McDonald added: " I am delighted to be joining a forward thinking business such as Merje and I am really excited about taking this well-respected brand into the Scottish recruitment market.

“Given Merje’s diverse service offering across industries including Financial Services, Retail, Outsourcing, Utilities and Telecoms, I truly believe there is an opportunity for us to continue the success enjoyed in England and grow the business north of the border.

“I look forward to taking the brand to my network of clients and candidates across Scotland and offering the outstanding services which are already enjoyed by existing Merje clients.”
